ASA Learn To Swim 8-10 For Competitive Swimming

ASA Learn to Swim Awards 8-10 continue the swimmer's journey past level 7 of the Learn to Swim Framework.

Swimmers are encouraged to take part in different aquatic disciplines to develop their fundamental sports skills covering competitive swimming, synchro, water polo, and diving.

The 12 awards of the ASA Learn to Swim Awards 8-10 are stages 8, 9, 10 water polo, stages 8, 9, 10 synchro, stages 8, 9, 10 competitive swimming and stages 8, 9, 10 diving. All awards are available in English and Welsh.

Objectives of ASA Learn to Swim Awards 8-10

Stage 8

  1. Complete a set lasting 400 metres (e.g. 16 x 25 metres) on a specific turn around time set by the coach (e.g. 1.00 minutes for each 25 metres).
  2. Swim 400 metres continuously using one stroke.
  3. Kick 25 metres backstroke with/ without using a board.
  4. Kick 25 metres breaststroke with/ without using a board.
  5. Kick 25 metres butterfly with/without using a board.
  6. Kick 25 metres front crawl with/ without using a board.
  7. Perform a backstroke turn from 10 metres in to 15 metres out.
  8. Perform a breaststroke turn from 10 metres in to 15 metres out.
  9. Perform a butterfly turn from 10 metres in to 15 metres out.
  10. Perform a front crawl turn from 10 metres in to 15 metres out.

Stage 9

  1. Complete a set lasting 800 metres (e.g. either 16 x 50 metres; eight x 100 metres; four x 200 metres) on a specific turn around time set by the coach (e.g. 1.30 minutes for 50 metres; 2.45 minutes for 100 metres; 6.00 minutes for 200 metres).
  2. Swim 800 metres continuously choosing one stroke.
  3. Swim a continuous 100metres individual medley using legal turns.
  4. Perform a 15 metres underwater kick on front in a streamlined position.
  5. Perform a backstroke start then butterfly kick in a streamlined position underwater until 10 metres from the start point (wall), transfer into stroke and complete the remainder of the 25 metres.
  6. Perform a front crawl start, underwater kick in a streamlined position until a minimum of 10 metres from the start point (wall) is completed, transfer into stroke and complete the remainder of the 25 metres.
  7. Perform a butterfly start kick in a streamlined position until a minimum of 10 metres from the start point (wall) is completed, transfer into stroke and complete the remainder of the 25 metres.
  8. Perform a breaststroke start, perform a one and a half pull under water, transfer into stroke and complete the remainder of the 25 metres.

Stage 10

  1. Complete a set lasting 1600 metres (either 16 x 100 metres; eight x 200 metres; four x 400 metres) on a specific timed turn around set by the coach (e.g. 2.30 minutes for 100 metres; 5.30 minutes for 200 metres; 12 minutes for 400 metres).
  2. Swim 1500 metres continuously choosing one stroke.
  3. Perform a continuous 100 metres individual medley kick without using a kick board.
  4. Swim a continuous 200 metres individual medley using legal turns.
  5. Perform a 15 metres under water butterfly kick on back or front in a streamlined position.
  6. Perform a front crawl relay take over – as an incoming swimmer.
  7. Perform a front crawl relay take over – as an outgoing swimmer.
